In 1968, broadcasting's "Heidi Incident" took place.  Outraged football fans jammed NBC switchboards after the network cut away from the final minutes of a game between the New York Jets and the Oakland Raiders in order to begin a TV adaptation of 
"Heidi"  on schedule.  Viewers in the eastern United States were prevented from seeing Oakland come from begind to beat the Jets, 43-32.
